Rome celebrates Gladiator II movie

Gladiator II: Everything We Know

Gladiator II hits Italian cinemas on 14 November.
Rome celebrated the release of Gladiator II, Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sequel to the original Gladiator, with two major events in the city.

Trajan's Market, an iconic ancient Roman complex near the Colosseum, hosted a video mapping event showcasing dramatic scenes from the new movie, starring Paul Mescal. This immersive event, which was free to the public, took place on Sunday, November 10, from 7 PM to 9 PM, and could be viewed from Via dei Fori Imperiali.

On Thursday, November 14, the film's Italian premiere took place at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone. This red-carpet event marked the movie’s release in Italy, a week ahead of its debut in U.S. cinemas.

These events were part of the "Rome lights up with Gladiator II" initiative, organized by the city in collaboration with Fondazione Musica per Roma and Alice nella città. The project aimed to promote Rome's cultural and artistic heritage through cinema, both in Italy and abroad.

In addition, AS Roma, the city’s Serie A football club, paid tribute to the film with a video featuring scenes from the movie alongside its players. Last week, Roma legend Francesco Totti surprised attendees at the Lucca Comics Festival by dressing as a gladiator and dramatically revealing his identity, referencing the iconic scene from the original Gladiator film.
